My blog here has been down for a while and I just got it back up finally. After futzing with apache conf settings for who knows how long, it finally dawned on me that I’m just retarded and futzd up the WordPress settings.
So, after digging around the wp_options table I am glad to announce this blog is back up. FYI, I had to update the following columns:
UPDATE wp_options SET option_value="http://www.hawflakes.net/" WHERE option_name="home";
UPDATE wp_options SET option_value="http://www.hawflakes.net/" WHERE option_name="siteurl";
The last time I was at Sava pool was my high school swim test. After a grueling mod 0 class taking a swimming class, I finally passed the SFUSD swim test. What a st@le requirement. At least I didn’t drown.
So the Sava pool’s been remodeled and looks pretty sweet.
Don’t know if I’d check it out for $4, but I do miss smelling like chlorine all day. not.
So I was all set to ride my bike today to meet up with some runners when misfortune befell my bike.
I pumped my tires to the requisite 80psi. Put on my PayPal shirt and set off for 31 short blocks of riding.
My pedaling seems to do nothing so I change gears.
Nothing.
Click-click.
Nothing.
Click.
Crunch.
I look back and my rear derailleur is wedged into the spokes of my rear wheel.
I bring it back to the ‘rents, which is all of 30 feet away and examine the damage.
Phlegmlet should be a word. I coughed while waiting to cross Sunset Boulevard today. A bit of the residuals from being sick the week before last came back into my expectorator. It was gooey like a full-blown mucous present, but was substantially smaller. A phlegmlet. This needs to be a word. And I need to buy the domain. Right now.
So I watched Children of Men recently. It’s the first movie I’ve watching in ages. I liked it as a finely crafted movie. It was a slick production in all its gritty near-futureness. I don’t have anything really deep to say about it other than it was enjoyable. And I finished Never Let Me Go at the end of last year, so I have seen two near-future Englands. Maybe it’s time I visit the real McCoy.
Anyways, I’m reading Salt, which is quite interesting, but the writing itself is not quite up to snuff. It reads exactly like how I write, which is to say, teh sukc.
Finally, something I’m fawning over. I don’t know what my fascination with finely crafted mecha-reminiscent devices is, but I wantses it. The Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000. It sucks that the backlit version is $100 more than its dark elf brethren.
The biggest problem I have with this is that the windows key got moved to the middle.
Yes, yes, I’m a longtime linux and mac user, but I need my apple-key somewhere handy. *sigh*
A former co-worker sent me this video. On the funny scale, it’s a “heh.”
You don’t have to go to those lengths to interest a guy in the valley. It will certainly pique his interest that you’ve got a computer, but it’s pretty hard to meet women in what Eli has termed “Man Jose” Anyways, the biggest fun fact is that I interned one summer at the PAIX featured in the video. PAIX is short for the Palo Alto Internet Exchange. A co-lo before there were co-los. I worked on something completely different called NT-ATOM, which if you’re pretty bored, you can read about here.

The one I knew is getting honored tomorrow. My aunt made a call to my parents to tell them to attend. Something about the French honoring him and my uncle Claude accepting on his behalf.
The one I didn’t know is on the Internet 凌曼壽.
If you’re literate enough, you can see him mentioned here and here
The one I did served on at the Rotary Club as district governor in Saigon before the fall. You can see that here or here.
Speaking of Tihons, who is Paul Tihon? Another one of my half-uncles?
